Nebraska Plans to Raise Vaping Age to 19

The Nebraska Legislature is considering raising the age to legally purchase vaping products by one year.

The current age to legally purchase the products is 18. Lawmakers want to change that to 19 years.

The reason for the change is that the vaping products often end up and schools and even some of the companies that produce the items don’t want that to happen.

The Unicameral is expected to consider the issue sometime this week.

Update

The bill has been passed on last Friday.

The bill raised the legal age from 18 to 19 for purchasing and possessing vapor products, flavored liquids containing nicotine and tobacco products.

Individuals younger than 19 who purchase or use vapor or tobacco products will be guilty of a Class 5 misdemeanor. An individual selling or providing vapor or tobacco products to those under 19 will be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor.

The bill also requires retailers that sell vapor products to be licensed.
