VOOPOO Drag X & Drag S Pod Mod Review

Spread the love

Followed the success of Vinci series, VOOPOO released another 2 pod mods in the DRAG series: Drag S and Drag X. The DRAG S and DRAG X are two pod-style AIOs that take the same PnP coils as the Vinci series. Both devices are equipped with the GENE-TT chipset, take 4.5ml pods, and charge through a USB Type-C port. The Drag S has a 2600mAh internal battery, while the Drag X takes an 18650 battery —which makes it feel more like a mod, especially you can use a 510 adapter on it. Lets see their performance in this review.

BTW, both products were sent from directly from VOOPOO for the purpose of reveiw.

Design & Quality

Except the difference of battery & wattage, the overall designs and materials of both kits are the same, so for this part, I will not describe them separately. The combination of leather and alloy is stunning, it looks and feels very good, and you may believe it is another product from Geekvape.

Well, like other prodcuts in DRAG series, VOOPOO also had a big DRAG logo on the product, it will not appeal to all end users, but for me it looks OK. The screen is large, colorful, and bright and wattage is visible even under direct sunlight. The transparent PCTG material used on the pods is a great fit for the mod and kinda looks like one of those sexy aftermarket transparent RDA caps. Seriously, even the airflow adjustment system looks awesome—and unlike the Vincis, the airflow is fully adjustable on the DRAGs. Both devices are a bit smaller than their equivalents in the Vinci line, and have a better hand feel due to their rounded shape.

Overall, I am very happy with the design and building quality.

The Pods & Coils

The PCTG pod capacity is 4.5ml, which is enough for me to vape it whole day long. The pods are bottom-filled, and the filling port is large enough to use even with droppers. To replace the coil, all you need to do is pull the old one out and push the new one in. Both devices will auto-set the wattage once the pod is in place.

The drip tip is not replaceable, but it feels pretty good, especially for DL vaping. Though the pod looks grey, not dark, so you can view the juice level clearly. Another good design is the connection between the pod and the device. There are 4 magnets placed onto the bottom of the pod connect surprisingly well with the circular metal plate inside the mod. I have zero concerns about the pod unexpectedly coming loose or falling off.

BTW, all PnP coils are compatible with both kits. So no need to worry about the coil problems.

The Devices & Operations

The buttons on the mod are same with other VOOPOO devices, there is a fire button, up and down buttons, all of which are round. Between the buttons is the 0.96” TFT screen and below the buttons sits the USB-C port. On the back of the devices, sits a small handle to alter the airflow. The airflow is formed by two slits, one at either side of the mod. Here are some simple operations:

  • Turn ON/OFF: 5 clicks of the fire button.
  • Mode Change: 3 clicks of the fire button to change between “smart” and “RBA” mode on the X (the S allows you to swap between button press and auto-draw mode too).
  • Puff Interface: Pressing up and down together enters the PUFF interface (keep fire pressed for 2 seconds to exit).
  • Reset Puffs: Pressing fire and down together resets your daily puff number. BTW, for Drag X, if you remove the 18650 battery, the puff counts will be cleared.
  • Lock: Pressing fire and up together locks the device (you can’t fire it or change wattage when locked).
  • For more operations, please view the user manual in the package.

Thanks to the GENE TT Chip, the system simulates the amount of vapour you are using per puff. And uses that information to score your puff count. This new function is useless for me, and it takes a good place on the screen.

Performance

There are 3 coils for those 2 kits in total. Drag X came with 0.3ohm & 0.15ohm coils, while Drag S came with 0.3ohm & 0.2ohm coils.

  • 0.15ohm coil: This is a new coil in PnP series, best for 60-80W. It produced excellent flavor and impressive clouds at 65 watts with the airflow around 80% open. This is the best coil I found in PnP series.
  • 0.3ohm coil: best for 32-40W, and VOOPOO recommends ejuice no more than 10mg. The performance for both kits is the same. Overall, the 0.3ohm coil performance is not that as good as the 0.15ohm coil, but it works good still.
  • 0.2ohm coil: another new coil, best for 40-60W. Again, flavor is excellent. It is not as cloudy as the 0.15-ohm coil, but it’s not far from it.

As for the coil life, PnP coils have a great reputation in regards to life span. Based on my experience, they last roughly two weeks, often more than 2 weeks. Of course, there are many other factors will affect the life span, such as the eliquid PGVG ratio, frequency you vape…

Did they leak? The answer is nope, they did not leak during my test.

Battery life and charging time. For Drag X, as it uses 18650 battery, I would like to suggest SONY VCT5 and take out your battery to charge. For Drag S, the built-in 2600mAh battery is good for me to vape whole day long, and it may take 90 minutes to get it fully charged.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Good pod capacity 4.5ml
  • Clear pod to view juice level
  • Strong connection
  • Adjustable airflow
  • Large filling port
  • Nicely designed, leather is cool
  • Easy operation

  • Good flavor, especially 0.15ohm coil
  • 18650 battery for Drag X

Cons:

  • Scoring system is meaningless for me
  • Drag X, Puff and time will be reset if the battery removed

Summary

The newly added 2 pod mods in Drag series are another new master pieces for VOOPOO, the design is stunning, flavor is so good and the cloud is also not bad, while the coil life span is over average. So personally, I would recommend them for any one who wants to try pod mods.
