Spread the love

The RPM40 kit by SMOK was sent from CigaBuy for the purpose of review. Together with VOOPOO VINCI, SMOK RPM40 is one of the 2 pod mod styled vaping devices. It combines the advantages of both pod system and box mod, small in size but has a battery capacity of 1500mAh and a power range of 1W-40W for you to adjust. Lets see how it vapes in this review.

Design & Building

The RPM40 is a cubed shaped pod, something like OBS Cube-X in appearance, but smaller, 10cm in height. The build quality of the whole kit is pretty impressive, feels solid in hands.

Also it came with 2 differnt pods (RPM pod and Nord pod), both of them are able to hold over 4ml juice. Working with 2 differnt pods means a lot, it gives vapers more choices for the coils. And for Nord pod users, they can upgrade their vaping devices by spending less money while keeping the same or better vaping experience.

Overall, the whole kit is compact and portable. The edges are nicely rounded off making it comfortable to hold. Further to this, the fire button is perfectly placed and the nice big colour screen is under the fire button.

The Battery

The RPM40 came with a 1500mAh built-in battery, which is huge enough for whole day vaping. The big screen makes everything easy to be read – battery level, wattage, working time, resistance, voltage, puffs, and you can also choose the display color.

SMOK RPM40 Kit

Here are some easy operations:

  • 5 clicks the fire button – turn it on/off
  • 3 clicks the fire button – lock/unlock the device
  • Press the fire button and “+” button at the same time – choose the color display
  • Press the fire button and “-” button at the same time – reset the puff count

Very easy right? I believe any new vapers will be ok with the operations.

The Pods

As mentioned previously, the kit came with 2 pods – the RPM pod and the Nord pod. Both pods are the same in shape and size, but with different color on the silicone plug for the filling hole – Red one is RPM pod and black one is Nord pod.

Please note – the coils for RPM pod are not working with Nord pod, same with the Nord coils, they are not working with RPM pod.

The drip tips are not removeable but feel comfortable while vaping. Filling the pods is also an easy job. Unfortunately, there was no airflow control system in this kit.

The coils are different in size, so there is a little difference in juice capacity – RPM pod 4.3ml, Nord pod 4.5ml. Replacing the coils is super easy thanks to the push fit system that relies on a tight seal to prevent any leaking.

The Coils

  • RPM pod – The coil came with the RPM pod is 0.4ohm mesh coil for DL vaping (25W best). While based on SMOK website info, there are another 5 coils are compatible with the RPM pod: Triple coil 0.6ohm, Quartz 1.2ohm, SC 1.0ohm, MTL 0.3ohm mesh coil and RBA head.
  • Nord pod – The coil came with the Nord pod is 0.6ohm regular DC coil for DL vaping (20W best). Other compatible coils: MTL 0.8ohm mesh coil, 1.4ohm regular coil and 0.6ohm mesh coil.

My question here is: with so many coil options, why not put a MTL coil in the package?

Performance

Overall, I am happy with the kit performance, but personally I love the RPM pod more than the Nord pod.

  • RPM pod 0.4ohm mesh coil – SMOK recommends 25W, I vaped it at 30W, the vapor production is amazing and the flavor is also good;
  • Nord pod 0.6ohm DC coil – SMOK recommends 20W, I vaped it at 25W, the flavor is the same with the RPM pod but with less vapor.

As there was no MTL coils in the package, I cannot tell you the MTL vaping experience here. Same with the RBA section.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Portable and comfortable
  • Huge e-liquid capacity
  • Big colorful screen
  • Good flavour from both coils
  • 2 pods with many coil options

Cons:

  • Better to come with a MTL coil
  • No airflow control system

Where to Buy?

So if you’re interested in this nicely designed RPM40 kit by SMOK, please check at Cigabuy. They are selling it around $27 for the kit, I believe it is a very competitive price for a 40W pod mod.
